Earning a quality education can be financially challenging. Ave Maria University offers several financial aid options for our online students to help make tuition costs even more affordable. We encourage all students to apply for financial aid, even if they don’t expect that they’re eligible. In fact, 99 percent of our students receive financial aid. We offer our students loans, grants, and a payment plan.

The first step to getting financial aid is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Don’t forget to use our school code, 039413, when you fill out the application. The FAFSA can be completed as early as Jan. 1 and is due June 30 each year. After we’ve received your FAFSA information, we will notify you of eligible aid, and you can then accept your financial aid.

What is the FAFSA?

The Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) determines your eligibility for financial aid programs, such as loans and grants. The application process identifies how much your family can contribute toward your education costs based on household income, etc. This Expected Family Contribution is subtracted from the Cost of Attendance budget to determine the unmet need.

What kind of financial aid can I get?

After completing your FAFSA, you may be eligible for the following types of federal funding, as well as a payment plan:

  • Federal and state grants, which do not require repayment
  • Low-interest subsidized and unsubsidized student loans

Can I receive financial aid every year?

Yes, you can renew financial aid each year you enroll in online classes with Ave. All you have to do is renew your FAFSA annually and maintain satisfactory academic progress

Can I receive financial aid for summer terms?

If you have not used all of your financial aid for the full year, you can apply the remaining amount toward your summer tuition and fees.

How can I use my financial aid to purchase textbooks and/or supplies?

If you are awarded more money than necessary for tuition and fees, you can use remaining funds to pay for books or supplies. The bookstore will receive a notice that funds are available and the amount that can be applied toward textbook and supply purchases.

Is there a payment plan available?

Yes, we offer our students the chance to pay for each semester with a monthly payment plan. Payments will be withdrawn automatically from your checking account, credit card, or debit card on the 1st or 15th of each month. There is a $25 fee each semester for the payment plan.

I’m applying for graduate school and need to take the GRE. Is there a discount available?

Yes, the GRE reduction certificate is available to students who qualify through the financial aid office. The certificate provides a 50-percent discount for your testing fee. In order to qualify, you must be a U.S. resident or eligible non-citizen with an Expected Family Contribution of $1,400 or less for dependent students and $1,800 or less for independent students (in your last academic year). Please consult the GRE testing center website for test dates and discount deadlines.

I’m a U.S. military veteran. Can I get any benefits?
